Saw Palmetto an alternative to Propecia?

Saw palmetto has long been used as a supplement for prostrate health. In recent years it has gain popularity as a supplement for hair loss, in particular, men’s hairloss. This is because of the fact that it is believed that saw palmetto is able to block certain testosterone, hence, preventing hair loss like Propecia does.

However, saw palmeto has not been approved by FDA as a treatment for hairloss. Saw palmetto is currently used as all natural herbal, nutritional supplement for hairloss. FDA currently does not strictly regulate supplements. Big supplement companies such as Procerin and Provillus are some of those companies that strongly believe that saw palmetto is the answer to hairloss.

Saw palmetto is often considered as having similar effectiveness as Propecia but without its side effects (about 1% of Procepia users experience sexual side effects such as erectile dysfunction). Currently there are not enough researches to substantiate this claim. However, users of saw palmeto so far have only complained of stomach discomfort. This could be easily resolved by taking saw palmetto before going to bed or with food. Saw palmeto is not recommended for persons with stomach, heart lungs or blood conditions.

There are many brands of saw palmetto, what a user should look out for are propriety blend of herbal ingredients in it.
